Abstract: Abstract. This research falls within the area of teaching German as a third language (TL). It focuses on the short-term effects of Multi-competence strategies on learning vocabulary and speaking skills of a third foreign language for intermediate level learners at the Higher Language Institute (HLI), Arab International University and University of Innsbruck. Moreover, it sheds light on the adopted approaches while teaching these strategies by teachers at the HLI, Arab International University and University of Innsbruck. It investigates whether these strategies are taught implicitly, explicitly or both.
