Bereg vármegye nem katolikus iskoláiról a Lehoczky-féle monográfia előtti időkből

Abstract

Már közhelynek számít, hogy vidékünk múltjának hiteles források alapján történő bemutatása a leginkább hiányolandó Kárpátaljával kapcsolatban. „Ez irdatlan hegyek közé szorult katlan” – Kovács Vilmos szavaival élve – számunkra a szülőföld, a kisebbik haza, melynek földjét a XX. század folyamán négy állam is bírta, s így egy emberöltő alatt is több impérium váltotta egymást. E változások egyben fordulópontok voltak a vidék őshonos lakosságának egyéni és közösségi életében is, melyek mély, igencsak lassan gyógyuló traumát okoztak. Megtörtek gerincek, sorvadtak, pusztultak települések. A táj újabb és újabb gazdái mindig saját igazságuk szerint próbálták átírni visszamenőleg a vidék történetét. Ezért oly fontos, hogy a levéltárak poros irataiban megbúvó valós adatokat napvilágra hozzuk. A forráspublikációban a Kárpátaljai Területi Állami Levéltár (KTÁL) beregszászi részlegén található 10. fond 4. opiszának 580. ügyiratába fűzött statisztikai kimutatásokat adjuk közre. A forrás az egykori Bereg vármegye minden településének nyilvános felekezeti iskoláját, az azokban tanulók és tanítók számát, nemek szerinti megoszlását, ill. a 6-12 éves iskolakötelezettek számszerű adatain túl a települések lélekszámát és felekezeti megoszlását is mutatja.

Abstract. It is already commonplace, that the presentation of our region's past based on authoritative sources lacks research regarding Subcarpathia. This land – “A cauldron trapped amid huge mountains” in the words of Vilmos Kovács – is our homeland as well as our smaller home which belonged to four different states in the 20th century and where empires replaced each other within a generation. These changes also meant a turning point in the individual and community life of the indigenous population of the area causing a very slowly healing deep trauma. Besides they brought about broken lives as well as atrophied and destroyed settlements. The new owners of the land made attempts to retroactively rewrite its history according to their own truth. This is why it is so important to bring to the light the real data of the documents hidden in the dusty archives. In the source publication the statistical summaries of file 580, description 4, fund 10 of the Beregszász Branch of the Transcarpathian Regional State Archives are presented. The source contains data on the public denominational school, the number of its students and teachers as well as their gender distribution of each settlement in the former Bereg County. In addition apart from numerical data on children of compulsory schooling aged between 6 to 12 it presents data on the population of settlements and their denominational distribution.
