Символіка центру в жанрі казки та специфіка її відтворення у перекладі

Abstract

Просторова орієнтація в оточуючому середовищі відіграє життєво важливу роль для усього живого, а тому вивчення її актуалізації за допомогою різноманітних груп символів відіграє суттєве значення для адекватного світосприйняття. Відповідно, достовірне відтворення просторової символіки вихідного тексту у культурі інших народів постає одним з першочергових завдань перекладача. Стаття присвячена вивченню окремої групи символів простору, символіки центру, зокрема способів її актуалізації у народних казках та відтворення у цільових текстах. За підсумками проведеного дослідження встановлено, що передача символів центру з народних казок не викликає значних труднощів у перекладачів через свій універсальний характер, однак вимагає ґрунтовного дослідження різних значень, притаманних символам цієї групи. . Space is considered to be an essential category for all the living-beings as it determines the boundaries for their existence. Therefore, the studying of its actualization with the help of symbols of space plays a significant role for reflection of the national worldview. Symbols of space include various groups, in particular symbols of otherworld, border, contact, as well as vertical and horizontal symbols, and the symbols of centre. The latter hold an important meaning for developing the narrative and compositional context. Despite relatively extended research in the field of folktale symbols and their translations, there are few studies devoted to the issue of conveying folktale symbols of centre into the target language. The aim of the article is to highlight the ways of rendering symbols of centre taken from English and Ukrainian folktales, and to assess the adequacy of their reproduction in the target culture. According to the results of the research, the symbols of the above-mentioned group are singled out on the basis of two types of centres: mono- and dual centres. In folk animistic tales, the hut (courtyard, river, forest) becomes the centre of the tale. A hut or a whole village (city) serves as the centre of the socially-oriented folktales. Thus, in both types of the folktale the symbolic centre is monocentric. However, the centric space in fairy tales can be both monocentric and dualistic. The latter appears if the protagonist and antagonist have their own places of living that usually becomes the centres of their existence. In order to convey the symbols of the group under scrutiny, translators use direct symbolic equivalents maintaining the adequate perception of the symbols by the target audience. This is usually connected with the universal characters of the symbols of centre that simplifies the process of rendering the latter into the receiving culture.
